Bhutan Whiskeys 1
One of the most expected finds in Bhutan is definitely the amount of quality whiskeys the Land of the Thunder Dragon produces. Some of you travellers may be tempted to buy a bottle of alcohol from your embarkation airport to enjoy after your dinner during your trip to Bhutan, but fret not, good whiskeys are in no short supply in this hidden kingdom.

Produced mainly by the Army Welfare Projects (AWP) as a way to fund projects for the welfare of the armed force.

K5 - A Premium Whiskey

First produced in 2008, The K5 is specially blended and produced to commemorate the happy and auspicious occasion of the Coronation of His Majesty the Fifth Druk Gyalpol, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan.

Blended and bottled in Gelephu, Bhutan, it uses vatted malt imported from Scotland, high quality grain neutral spirit and natural spring water.

This is easily one of our favourite whiskey from Bhutan. Regretfully and much to our disappointment, it is rumoured that production for this whiskey might stop permanently, so do give it a try should you get the chance.

Prophecy - The Taste of an Era

Some said it was only produced in 2016 of limited production and not for sale. Only a select few received this rare whisky as gifts from His Majesty the King of Bhutan

On the back of the packaging wrote:
" Be Valiant, son, and listen again
In the three wooded valleys
of the Southern Hidden Land
In the delightful village named Omai Drong
A person will be born in the Year of the Sheep
Having a mole on a radiant smiling face
If he is enthroned
The nation will flourish boundlessly
without any hurdles
And once again
sentient beings will find happiness"
