What is the best way to visit Bhutan, when is the best time to travel and where should we go for sightseeing? Is it kid-friendly?

Mr. Joni Herison, managing director of Bhutan travel specialist Druk Asia (www.drukasia.com), recommends a seven-day trip covering places such as capital Thimphu, Punakha, the ancient capital, Haa Valley for its alpine scenery and Paro, home to the iconic Taktsang Monastery which is built on a cliff.

It is priced from $3,099 a person and $2,699 for children and teenagers below the age of 21. The price includes return flights from Bangkok to Paro, visas, a driver, guide, tours, meals, and accommodation.

The best time to visit is in December and mid-may, during autumn and spring when the temperature is cool and ranges from the high 10s to the low 20s..

National carrier Drukair is expected to commence direct flights between Singapore and Paro in September for about $1,300 returns.

For now, the only way to get there is to fly to Bangkok before taking a red-eye flight the next day to Paro. The Bangkok to Paro flight costs about $1,000 return.

According to Mr Herison, there should be no problem for the children to travel in Bhutan as visitors are driven around in multi-purpose vehicles. Hiking tracks to attraction such as the Taktsang Monastery are well marked and not so steep.

Temples are also easy to navigate. He has organized trips for families with kids as young as three years old.
