When we arrived in Bhutan as visitor
When we (myself, Kenna and a dear close friend Kamlesh) arrived in Bhutan as visitors, 10 days later, we left as people who have been deeply touched—not just by the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of this remarkable kingdom, but by the extraordinary person who guided us through it all. From the moment our guide Ms Chencho Lham met us at the airport to our final goodbye, she embodied everything that makes Bhutan special. Her warmth wasn't just professional courtesy—it was genuine compassion that made us feel like we were traveling with family rather than following a guide. What truly set her apart was her passion for her homeland.
Every monastry, zhong, every mountain pass, every tradition came alive through her stories. She didn't just show us Bhutan's history—she made us feel connected to the ancestors who shaped this land, to the spiritual traditions that guide its people, and to the very soul of the kingdom itself. Her dedication truly shone on our final day when we hiked to Tiger's Nest Monastry [Paro Taktsang]. It rain almost the entire day, turning the mountain path into a muddy, slippery challenge. But she went all out to ensure our safety and comfort, carefully guiding us up and down that treacherous trail. What could have been a miserable, dangerous experience became a memorable adventure thanks to her unwavering care and expertise. Perhaps most importantly, she shared with us the Bhutanese secret to happiness.
Through her own joyful spirit and wise words, she showed us how contentment comes not from what we have, but from how we choose to see the world. This wasn't just cultural education—it was a gift that will travel home with us. And not forgetting we must also thank our wonderful driver Leki, whose skill and care kept us safe and comfortable on every winding mountain road, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty around us. Chencho, you didn't just show us Bhutan—you helped us understand what it means to live with genuine happiness and compassion.
You've given us memories that will last a lifetime and lessons that will guide us long upon our return to home.
