5 Day Uma Paro Himalayan Adventure Itinerary
1 Arrival in Paro – Gentle Introduction
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you are warmly welcomed by your friendly private guide before the short ten-minute transfer to COMO Uma Paro. After settling into the lodge, your first gentle introduction to Bhutan begins with a relaxed visit to Paro town and a local temple. The afternoon is intentionally unhurried, allowing time to acclimatise to the altitude while getting to know your guide, who will tailor additional sightseeing options to suit your interests and energy levels.
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro
2 Paro Valley Walks & Sacred Temples
Walk through pine forests above the lodge to Zuri Dzong, then continue to Ta Dzong, Bhutan’s National Museum, with expansive views over Paro. Descend to Rinpung Dzong and cross the traditional covered bridge, Nyamai Zam, passing the archery ground and Ugyen Pelri Palace before reaching Paro town. Later, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, famed for its orange tree that bears fruit year-round. If time allows, continue up the valley to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong.
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro
3 Chele La Pass, Haa Valley & Kila Goemba
Start early for the scenic drive to Chele La Pass, Bhutan’s highest motorable road at 3,988 metres, winding upward through blue pine and rhododendron forests. On clear days, enjoy sweeping views of the snow-dome of Mount Jomolhari, Bhutan’s second-highest peak, and down into the remote Haa Valley, which only opened to visitors in 2002 due to its proximity to the borders of Sikkim and Tibet.
This unspoiled valley evokes a simpler, more traditional Bhutan. Walk along an Edelweiss-covered ridge in the summer months, passing a sky burial site, before descending on a two-hour hike through dense rhododendron forest, with the chance of spotting yaks, to Kila Goemba. This ancient nunnery is dramatically nestled into a craggy mountainside and remains a place of quiet devotion and retreat for Buddhist nuns.
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro
4 Tiger’s Nest Pilgrimage & Wellness
Today’s highlight is the pilgrimage to Taktsang Goemba, the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery clinging to a sheer cliff 900 metres above the valley floor. An early start avoids the heat as you climb through pine forests to the viewpoint before descending and ascending again to the monastery itself, passing waterfalls and mural-lined gateways. After returning to the lodge, enjoy a well-earned afternoon of rest, perhaps at the steam rooms, swimming pool or with a traditional hot stone bath.
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro

What Our Travellers Say
Dear Sangay,
Good day! I am back home safely.
I had a great time in Bhutan, the service of Uma Paro is impeccable, the guide (Rinzin) and the driver (Tashin) made my journey even more wonderful. Honestly, I was thinking "once in a lifetime" before I go, now I will like to go to Bhutan every year.
I never get tired of Nature! Kadin-Chhey!!
With warmest regards,
Irena Hsiao
Sonam, Thanks for organizing the trip for us, it was by far one of the best we ever had. The trip to Bhutan has been amazing. We arrived the country with warm welcome from our tour guide Kuenzang and driver Sonam. They were probably the most accommodating and friendly tour guides we have had so far. It has been a pleasure to have them throughout the trip. The Uma hotel at Paro and Punakha was a blast, the rooms were well presented, nice and clean, well reflected its 5 star standard. The hotel staff was well trained, polite and attentive. The meals from the restaurants were tasty and made from the freshest ingredient, kinda of luxury for us as quite a few ingredients were imported, logistically that mustn’t been easy.
Dear Sonam & Mindu, Bhutan is awesome. We have exciting experience especially hiking to the Tiger Nest! The hotel was very nice, fits with their ranks as 5 star hotel; perfect stay to get peacefulness in our heart. Their service/hospitality was extremely perfect. Special thanks to: - Mr. Norman as General Manager of Uma Paro, He made our stay more comfortable. - Mr. Tharchu as our tour guide, he made our journey meaningful even though we only have short visit - Mr Dewa as head of the Chef, nice Bhutanese food - Mr. Made as the baker, it is unbelievable in such place has many delicious bakery, even 5 star hotel in Jakarta can not match - Mr. Ti Ling, Ms.Chung Mo as our butler, great hospitality and service, they made our room clean, warm so we could have wonderful sleep.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Bhutan. I have done nothing but highly recommend Bhutan and Druk Asia since our return!
Our guide Ugyen Tenzin and Tenzing our driver were fantastic. As you know this is my second time to Bhutan, but this last trip with your company was far superior. Ugyen had a wonderful depth of knowledge about Bhutan's history and his respect for country and king was beautiful to bear witness to and experience. It made us want to treat the wonderful country of Bhutan with that same level of respect and honour and left a lasting impression.
