Have you ever longed to step into a land where tradition reigns supreme, the air is steeped in prayer flags and ancient melodies, and every mountain pass feels like walking through a living tapestry of heritage? On this thoughtfully curated 7‑day Cultural Tour with Druk Asia, you’ll journey beyond the headlines of “happiest nation” to uncover the real heart of Bhutan.

From the moment you land in the mystical Paro Valley and ascend to the sacred Tiger’s Nest, right through to the bustling markets of Thimphu and the serene grandeur of Punakha Dzong, each day unveils a new layer of Bhutan’s rich Buddhist tapestry. Guided by passionate local experts, you’ll wander through majestic dzongs, meet master weavers crafting symbolic textiles, savour hearty local cuisine, and connect with families whose warm hospitality offers a doorway into everyday life.

It’s a journey that’s as deeply cultural as it is soul‑nourishing—crafted for curious travellers who want to see, feel and truly experience Bhutan through the eyes of its people.

All our tours are fully customisable — the itineraries you see are simply a starting point. We'll work closely with you to tailor every detail.

1 Arrival in the Land of the Thunder Dragon

Welcome to Bhutan and your first day in the magical Land of the Thunder Dragon! Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide just outside the arrival hall. Standing at more than 7,300 feet above sea level, you’ll feel the crisp, high-altitude air. To help you acclimatise, we’ll take a leisurely drive to your hotel in Thimphu, where you can enjoy a traditional Bhutanese lunch and soak in your first views of the Himalayas.

Begin your journey at the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s remarkable national animal, the takin. This gentle, unusual creature is often described as a cross between a moose and a goat. Once a small zoo, the area was transformed into a preserve after the king decreed that caging animals was against Buddhist principles. The preserve now provides a safe haven for these unique animals.

Continue onwards to the breathtaking Buddha View Point, where the towering bronze Buddha Dordenma sits serenely overlooking Thimphu. At 169 feet tall, this magnificent statue is one of the largest seated Buddhas in the world. From here, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the entire city, framed by emerald hills and mountain peaks.

Day 1

2 Discovering Thimphu’s Culture and Crafts

Start your morning at the lively Centenary Farmers’ Market, where local villagers gather every weekend to sell fresh produce, cheeses, and handmade crafts along the banks of the river. This bustling market is the heart of Thimphu’s community life.

Visit the fascinating National Folk Heritage Museum, which is dedicated to preserving Bhutan’s rich past. Housed in a traditional 19th-century building, the museum brings history to life through exhibitions, demonstrations, and artefacts, allowing you to experience rural Bhutanese culture up close.

Next, immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Bhutanese weaving at the National Textile Museum. Here, you’ll witness master weavers at work and learn about the symbolic significance of Bhutan’s textile designs—a living art form preserved by the Royal Government.

Pay your respects at the National Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in honour of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. This iconic stupa is one of the most visible religious landmarks in Bhutan and is constantly encircled by worshippers spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras.

Experience the traditional art of papermaking at the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory. Watch skilled craftsmen transform the bark of local trees into Deh-sho paper, used by monks for sacred texts and woodblock printing.

A short drive from Thimphu takes you to Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan. Built to imprison a demon that once terrorised the region, the dzong is famed for its intricate Buddhist paintings and wood carvings.

End your day at the majestic Thimphu Tashichho Dzong. The largest fortress-monastery in Thimphu, it serves as the seat of the King and the central monastic body. Marvel at its striking Bhutanese architecture—built entirely without nails or written plans.

Day 2

3 Across the Mountains to Punakha

Today’s journey takes you eastward to Punakha, once the capital of Bhutan. En route, you’ll stop at the famous Dochula Pass. At 3,100 metres above sea level, Dochula offers jaw-dropping, 360-degree views of the snow-capped Himalayas on clear days. The pass is marked by the striking cluster of 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, built in memory of Bhutanese soldiers and adding a spiritual touch to the breathtaking scenery.

A short distance away, discover Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a modern yet deeply spiritual temple completed in 2008. Built to commemorate 100 years of monarchy and the victories of the Fourth King, its murals and architecture celebrate Bhutan’s rich heritage and resilience.

Arriving in Punakha, you’ll tour the magnificent Punakha Dzong, renowned as one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan. Strategically situated at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, this architectural masterpiece has played a pivotal role in Bhutanese history as both a religious and administrative centre. Stroll through its ornate courtyards, admire the elaborate murals, and let the river breeze wash over you.

After exploring Punakha Dzong, make a memorable stop at Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, located on a scenic hilltop amidst verdant rice fields. Built in honour of the beloved “Divine Madman” Lama Drukpa Kunley, this modest yet significant temple is renowned for its colourful legends and unusual blessings. After a gentle walk through the countryside and local villages, you’ll reach the temple, where visitors and pilgrims from all over the world come to receive fertility blessings and experience the playful spirit of Bhutanese culture.

Complete your day with a walk across the legendary Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge. Spanning 160 metres, it is the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan and offers spectacular views of the surrounding valley and the majestic dzong—an exhilarating way to end the day’s explorations.

Day 3

4 Explore The Spiritual Heart of Punakha

Start the day with an invigorating walk through lush fields to the exquisite Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Commissioned by the Queen Mother for world peace, this temple is a marvel of Bhutanese artistry, with walls adorned with intricate spiritual murals and images of protective deities. The panoramic views from the temple’s rooftop are nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Enjoy a delightful picnic beside the river, where you can savour local flavours surrounded by the serene beauty of Punakha’s countryside. The soothing sounds of the water and the fresh mountain air create the perfect setting for a moment of relaxation.

Later, you’ll experience genuine Bhutanese hospitality during a home visit in a Bhutan farmhouse. Step inside a traditional family home, share stories over a delicious dinner, and immerse yourself in the warmth and authenticity of Bhutanese culture. This is a unique opportunity to witness daily life and create lasting memories with your local hosts.

Day 4

5 Discover Paro Valley and Sacred Sites

Travel to the picturesque Paro Valley, an area steeped in legend and history. The crystal-clear waters of the Pa Chhu, fed by glaciers from Mount Jomolhari, meander through fertile fields and tranquil villages. Paro is home to some of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred sites.

Begin at Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in Bhutan, believed to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Step into this peaceful sanctuary and feel the sense of calm that pervades the ancient halls. Adjacent to the temple, visit the charming museum dedicated to the revered Buddhist master Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, where you can view photographs and artefacts from his remarkable life.

Next, uncover the mystical Dumtse Lhakhang, a unique temple designed to pin down evil spirits beneath the earth. Built in 1433 by Thangtong Gyalpo, the legendary iron bridge builder, this temple’s three floors symbolise hell, earth, and heaven. Entry requires a special permit, but the extraordinary murals and spiritual energy are worth the effort.

Day 5

6 Conquer the Legendary Tiger’s Nest

Prepare for an unforgettable adventure as you set out to conquer the legendary Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery). Perched precariously on a cliffside 900 metres above the Paro Valley floor, this sacred site is the embodiment of Bhutan’s mystique and spirituality. The uphill trek is both invigorating and rewarding, offering breathtaking views at every turn.

According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this very spot on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave, blessing the site and establishing it as one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the Buddhist world. Whether you’re drawn by the spiritual resonance or the sheer spectacle of its dramatic setting, reaching the Tiger’s Nest is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with you forever.

Day 6
7 Farewell, Bhutan

As your journey draws to a close, take one last lingering look at Bhutan’s emerald valleys and golden temples. Today, you’ll bid a fond farewell to this enchanting kingdom, carrying with you new friendships, precious photographs, and memories that will endure long after you leave. Until we meet again—Tashi Delek!

This trip was a once in a lifetime experience . The company were incredible . Ugyen , the tour organiser in Singapore. responded very quickly to all queries from planning the itinerary and making sure it was right for us . No question was too small .the trip itself was with soul trips and our wonderful guide ( also called Ugyen) was a truly wonderful guide and human being . He and our driver tailored our days according to our requirements , energy levels . Nothing was too much trouble . He would stop to get us fruit , cough sweets etc without being asked . He often checked our hotel rooms and changed them if he felt there was a better view . He rang ahead to order ginger tea often as we both had coughs . Nothing seemed too much trouble and he always had a smile on his face.

The tour guide Kinley and his driver have been very accommodating to our request and they helped us to carry our bags for the tiger nest hike. We can change our lunch and dinner preference. Highly recommended to book your private tour with Druk Asia as they can customise your itinerary before and during your tour. Thank you for the wonderful experience in Bhutan!

I recently travelled with Druk Asia and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. From the planning stage, everything felt seamless and thoughtfully handled. The team was responsive, patient with questions, and very detailed in helping customise the itinerary so it matched exactly how I like to travel — a balance of comfort, culture, and meaningful local experiences. In Bhutan, everything ran effortlessly. The guide Pema was not only knowledgeable but also deeply passionate about their country, which made each monastery, hike, and village visit feel alive with stories rather than just sightseeing stops. Our driver Tsering was a fabulous driver and kept us safe and not dizzy from the winding roads. There was a strong sense that every detail had been considered.

My experience from the first enquiry via WhatsApp to sending us off at the airport at the end of the trip has been seamless and professional and all credit goes to the people that made the difference. You have redefine what service is! Sanjay attended to us promptly via email on tour options, visa and flight arrangements and a comprehensive pre departure kit. Thinley, our guide who took great care of us treating us as his friends more than clients. Namgay, whose great driving skills ensured we did not suffer from motion sickness even through bumpy dirt roads. Highly recommend 👍

Bhutan is one of the places that is on my travel Bucket List and hence when my husband and I had the opportunity to finally make this happen, I did a lot of research on the travel agencies which we should consider. DrukAsia consistently appeared with the most favourable reviews from their clients so I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. Ugyen Dema, the travel advisor, was responsive and easy to communicate with (mind you this was done all over email from start to finish!) where she was very patient with my queries and shared unbiased opinions on her suggestions from hotels to activities to do during our 7-day long trip there as we work on customising the trip. The visa processing, flight booking and finalising of the itinerary prior the departure went smoothly
