Asha Kama
I first encountered western art when I was young boy studying in one of the first exclusive public school in Thimphu. Leaving my conventional English school I spent several years as an apprentice studying the religious and mythological art of Bhutan at the National Fine Art Centre.
Apart from my own activities I am fully engaged in dedicating myself to the issue of Bhutanese contemporary art.
Rinchen Wangdi
Educated in Thimphu, Bhutan, I followed high school graduation with an apprenticeship for local artists at the institute of language and cultural studies in Thimphu. In 1998 I jointed VAST Bhutan (voluntary artist’s studio of Thimphu) and became a fulltime volunteer and tutor. I have actively participated in domestic group art exhibitions and events since 1999 and internationally in Bangladesh, India, Japan, Malaysia, S.Korea , Singapore and the U.S.A
Cherngzhi Lian
Cherngzhi Lian is an Artist living and working in Singapore. He was born in 1979 and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Time-Based Media Studies from the Columbus College of Art, Ohio. There, he was placed on a two-year extensive foundation programme in which he honed intensively his artistic skills in traditional mediums. Subsequent to the foundation programme, he was awarded a graduate associateship for his Master of Arts in Design Development from The Ohio State University.
Dr Karma Phuntsho
Dr Karma Phuntsho is a Bhutanese Tibetan Buddhist scholar, with a Ph.D., earned from Oxford University. Karma speaks and writes eleven languages, and is the Holder of Esoteric and Definitive Doctrines with Distinction (Lopen title), completing an intense nine year program at the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute.
He was also awarded Master of Perfection from the Nyingma Institute, after a six year program in Buddhist and Tibetan Studies.
The International Young Artists Exchange (IYAE), an initiative by The Old Parliament House Limited, was launched on 20 June 2012. IYAE creates opportunities for young talents from financially-disadvantaged backgrounds to come to Singapore for a learning and exchange experience. IYAE also funds local young talents from financially-disadvantaged backgrounds to travel abroad for performances and exchange programmes.
Voluntary Artists’ Studio, Thimphu, popularly known as VAST was set up in 1998 by a group of professional artists as a non profitable and non governmental organization (NGO). This informal organization was set up with the sole aim of providing an opportunity to the Bhutanese youth to participate and develop their potential talents as well as share social responsibilities through artistic explorations and other socially useful and productive work.
