Drukair Received Fourth A319

Updated on 10/June/2016

On the 15th March 2015, Drukair welcomes its latest and fourth A319 jet. The jet was purchased from Airbus at a cost of close to USD 40 million. The jet is registered as A5-JSW in honor of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and dedicated to the celebration of His 60th Birthday.

Equipped with Sharklets and Inflight Entertainment System

A5-JSW was equipped with the latest wing technology from Airbus in the form of sharklets. This technology gives some benefits. It allows the jet to depart Paro airport with 1,800 kgs more load than existing A319s. In favorable weather condition, A5-JSA can accept up to 122 passengers instead of just 113. Most importantly, the sharklets will help Drukair to save four percent in fuel consumption.

A5-JSW was equipped with an in-flight entertainment system in the form of drop-down screens. It will mainly fly the longer flight route served by Drukair such as Singapore Paro route.

Drukair requires a fleet of at least three A319s.

Due to the increase in the number of routes being served by Drukair with the addition of Singapore and Mumbai, Drukair requires at least three A319s to be operational at any point in time. The third A319 that is leased will be returned to reduce the number of A319 to three again.
