I had wanted to visit Bhutan for years

I had wanted to visit Bhutan for years. It took me a while to finally decide, and it was just a few days before the trip. Searching for inner peace, my request was for a guide who is well versed in Buddhism.

The experience was customized for me to attend an evening prayer at a monastery, and to me that session was precious and impactful with the whole hall of monks chanted in unison. Kinley Yongko, my guide, more than impressed me with his extensive knowledge and memory, explaining to me history of Buddhism in Bhutan and the different schools, meanings of the paintings in Dzongs, monasteries and temples. He was patient and enthusiastic to share knowledge, which I really benefited a lot, and brought out my interest to further read and learn about Vajrayana Buddhism.

The hikes in Thimpu and Gangtey were nice and scenic especially the Phobjikha nature trail. I had a small incident when my phone malfunctioned on the second day. Both Yongko and Sangay were thoughtful and helpful with setting up my e-sim and when my hand phone broke down on the second day, both Yongko and Sangay helped to look for repair and managed to get the phone back the same night. These 2 gentlemen and other Soultrips guides and drivers we met in several attractions were all super friendly and added fun to the journey.

The Tiger Nest hike was nothing short of magical. Yongko and Sangay was extremely patient as I walked very slowly as it drizzled, I felt sorry that we missed lunch as the cafe had closed by the time we turned back.

The temple is beautiful and it was all worthwhile when we completed the hike. Overall an unforgettable journey and I am already hoping to visit again! Very thankful for this experience made possible by very knowledgeable guide Yongko and a skillful and fun driver Sangay!
