Discover the magic of Bhutan on this immersive 7-day journey through the Land of the Thunder Dragon, now with a unique highlight—two nights of fly fishing in the pristine rivers of Haa Valley. Perfectly crafted for travellers seeking both cultural depth and outdoor adventure, this tour blends Bhutan’s spiritual heritage with its untouched natural beauty.

Wander the vibrant streets of Thimphu, explore sacred temples in Punakha, and then retreat into the serene forests and alpine meadows of Haa, where you’ll spend two unforgettable days casting your line in crystal-clear waters surrounded by Himalayan peaks. The journey concludes with a pilgrimage to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Paro, ensuring your adventure ends on a high note.

All our tours are fully customisable — the itineraries you see are simply a starting point. We'll work closely with you to tailor every detail.

1 Arrival in the Kingdom

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your guide just outside the arrival hall. To help you acclimatise to the altitude, we’ll take it easy today with a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital. Check in to your hotel and enjoy your first taste of authentic Bhutanese cuisine

Begin your exploration at the National Memorial Chorten, a sacred stupa built in honour of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Continue to the grand Thimphu Dzong, the largest dzong in Bhutan and the seat of the King’s office. If your visit falls on a weekend, explore the bustling Centenary Farmers’ Market, where villagers gather to sell fresh produce and local crafts.

End the day at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, home to the colossal 169-foot bronze Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. After dinner, enjoy a relaxing stroll through vibrant Thimphu Town.

2 Spiritual Trails and Local Traditions

Situated at 2,400 metres, Thimphu is a unique blend of tradition and modernity—home to monks, royalty, and city dwellers alike. Today, immerse yourself in the cultural heart of Bhutan. Begin with a serene hike to Cheri Gompa, built in 1620 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This revered monastery is where the central monastic body was first established. Return to the city for a visit to the National Textile Museum, where you’ll discover Bhutan’s intricate weaving traditions—considered a national art form and elevated to global recognition by Queen Jetsun Pema.

Later, head to the Takin Preserve to meet Bhutan’s endearing national animal, the takin, believed to be created by the Divine Madman. From there, ascend to Sangaygang (BBS Tower), where colourful prayer flags flutter in the wind and panoramic views of Thimphu Valley, Tashichho Dzong, and the Buddha Dordenma await. Follow a scenic trail through pine forests and apple orchards to Wangditse Monastery, then loop back via the forest path to complete this enriching day.

3 Mountain Passes and Sacred Valleys

After breakfast, set off early for the ancient capital of Punakha, a picturesque 2.5-hour drive crossing the majestic Dochula Pass. Pause here for coffee and breathtaking views of the Himalayas, framed by the 108 memorial chortens built by Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. Descend into the subtropical valley of Punakha and visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, dramatically situated between the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This 17th-century masterpiece once served as the seat of government and is still the winter home of Je Khenpo, Bhutan’s Chief Abbot.

Cross the country’s longest suspension bridge and hike through rice terraces and pine forests to the hilltop Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, an extraordinary temple built by Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. End your day with a gentle 20-minute walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility, built in honour of the eccentric saint Drukpa Kunley. This revered site is especially popular among women seeking blessings for children.

4 Legends and Landscapes of Paro

Journey into the tranquil Paro Valley, home to ancient monasteries and Bhutan’s only international airport. Gaze upon the sacred Mount Jomolhari (7,300m), whose glacier-fed waters give life to the valley below. Begin with a visit to Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), a striking 15th-century fortress-monastery that still serves as the administrative centre of the district. Then head north to explore the evocative ruins of Drukgyal Dzong, built in 1647 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to celebrate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders. Though damaged by fire, its preserved walls stand as a proud reminder of Bhutan’s resilience and military prowess. Wander through the remains, take in the sweeping views, and relive stories of the kingdom’s glorious past.

5 Kickstart Your Flyfishing Adventure

Today, drive to the remote and pristine Haa Valley via the dramatic Chele La Pass (3,988m), the highest motorable point in Bhutan. On a clear day, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Paro Valley on one side and Haa Valley on the other, with snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Upon arrival, you’ll be met by your dedicated fly fishing guide, who will provide a thorough briefing and ensure you’re fully geared up for the adventure ahead. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, your guide will be on hand throughout to share techniques, assist with casting, and help you make the most of this unique experience.

Pause midday for a scenic riverside picnic lunch, surrounded by alpine meadows and the sound of rushing waters, before returning to the river. Spend the afternoon casting your line into the crystal-clear streams that flow through Haa Valley, as the golden light of evening settles over the tranquil landscape.

6 The Adventure Continues

The rivers of Haa are home to one of Bhutan’s most prized catches—the elusive brown trout. Introduced to Bhutan’s highland streams during the mid-20th century, brown trout have thrived in the country’s cold, fast-flowing rivers and remain a favourite among local and visiting anglers alike.

The next day, continue your fly fishing adventure in the pristine waters of Haa. Under the guidance of your dedicated instructor, you’ll explore different stretches of the river, trying your hand at catching the valley’s famed brown trout while surrounded by untouched alpine scenery.

As evening draws near, gather by the river for a cosy bonfire, where the day’s stories are shared under a starlit sky. The warmth of the fire, the sound of flowing water, and the crisp mountain air create a perfect ending to your fishing retreat in one of Bhutan’s most secluded valleys.

7 Back to Heart of Paro

This morning, drive back to Paro and begin your day with a visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, where the atmosphere of devotion and timeless history is palpable. Afterwards, take a leisurely stroll through Paro Town, browsing its charming shops and cafés, or simply soaking in the relaxed pace of life in the valley. Return to your hotel for some well-deserved rest and preparation before embarking on the highlight of your journey—the hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang) on the following morning.

8 Back to Heart of Paro

Save the best for last with a pilgrimage to Taktsang Monastery, or the Tiger’s Nest, perched on a cliff 900 metres above the valley floor. A 2-hour hike through pine forests and prayer-flag-lined trails leads you to this most iconic of Bhutanese landmarks, believed to be where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century.

After your descent, reward yourself with a hearty Bhutanese lunch before enjoying a relaxing afternoon—a chance to rest, wander, or simply let the stillness of Paro sink in.

As your journey draws to a close, reflect on the serenity, joy, and wonder that Bhutan has gifted you

9 Till We Meet Again

Today, we bid fond farewell to the enchanting Kingdom of Bhutan. After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure. We hope your journey has been filled with inspiration, wonder, and unforgettable moments. Until we meet again in this mystical land of mountains, monasteries, and magic—Tashi Delek!

Druk Asia has strong networks with DrukAir and local tour agencies, making logistics a total breeze. The itinerary was well-planned yet flexible enough to accommodate different needs. We could decide when we wanted to get up, which places to visit or simply recuperate in solitude. Will go with Druk Asia again if I were to go back for spring or autumn. Won’t have it any other way!

My trip to Bhutan was pleasant and well organized by Druk Asia. I was very happy and comfortable with my tour guide, Tshering, and had absolute confidence in my driver, Chimmi. Tshering kept me entertained throughout the trip with histories and stories about Bhutan while Chimmi was an excellent driver. Bhutan is a very beautiful country with its unique Buddhist culture and a nation of very warm people. The sceneries were spectacular and its culture charming. I will definitely visit Bhutan again and recommend Druk Asia to my friends.

I knew this Druk Asia through my friend who initially asked me to go to Bhutan. I have to say this travel is excellent. We went to Bhutan through Thailand and the next day we missed the flight. Bhutan’s flight is a bit strange in a sense that we need to be at Thai’s airport 2 hours before departure. The gate closed quite early. Druk Asia helped us a lot to arrange our next day flight. During our time in Bhutan, this travel agent frequently asked our condition there whether we were alright or not. This sense of caring is simply excellent, particularly for the country like Bhutan which is in the Himalayan continent. I really grateful to go to this country with Druk Asia. Excellent!

Back from Bhutan, I wanted to let you know that this has probably been the best holiday I ever had. Bhutan is really a wonderful place, the people are so friendly and the landscape gorgeous. We also had the best weather one could ask for, and that helped. We have been very happy the whole tour. One suggestion I would give you is to propose your future clients to spend 1 night in a farmhouse. We did, and we loved it. The host was absolutely nice and the experience of sharing dinner, breakfast and the ordinary life of a Bhutanese family was absolutely fantastic.

An unique experience! We had wonderful time in Bhutan. Though it was a short trip, we enjoyed natural beauty, spectacular view and warm friendly people. We have been many countries but this trip was something different, ...memorable and nostalgic.
