I had initially planned my trip to Bhutan in 2023, but it was postponed until July-August 2025. I approached the trip with an open mind and heart, albeit with limited research. Unlike my usual solo travels, I opted for a guided tour this time. I would like to extend my gratitude to Sonam, who initially arranged my trip in 2023 and was helpful in accommodating changes to my plans. Ugyen was also instrumental in customizing my itinerary and responding to my queries in a timely manner.
The highlight of my trip was touring with the exceptional duo, Tshering Dorji and Thinley Dorji. Our initial encounter 1.5-hour drive from Paro to Thimphu felt remarkably short, as we quickly established a rapport and became comfortable with each other. Perhaps our similar age range facilitated the camaraderie. The trip felt more like a journey with friends than a standard tour. The guide and the driver went above and beyond the scheduled itinerary, checking with me regularly to see if I wanted to explore other options. We formed connections through shared stories and laughters. As the trip progressed, I felt a pang of sadness that it would soon come to an end, leading me to decide to extend my stay. It was then that I realized I had fallen for Bhutan. Ugyen, Tshering, and Thinley helped facilitate the visa extension process and their schedule, allowing me to stay longer and indulge my curiosity about this captivating country.
The hike to Paro Taktsang was one of the most demanding I've ever done and the view of Tiger's Net was just Wow, followed by the Bumdra hike and an unforgettable overnight stay at the campsite. Although it was challenging, I grew to appreciate the experience.
I have left a piece of my heart in every places I have visited and every person that I have encountered, I recall each detail vividly. I am also deeply impressed by the people of Bhutan and their profound cultural pride. In every place I visited, I observed how seriously the locals practiced and preserved their cultural beliefs.
