Meet Your Host: Om

Tshering Farmhouse 1

My name is Om, and I run this farm homestay together with my daughter. We live in the same home along with my two grandchildren and our elderly mother, making it a lively multigenerational household filled with warmth and care.

A Century-Old Farmhouse in Dop Shari

Our farmhouse is located in the village of Dop Shari, just five minutes from Paro town, on the scenic road leading to the National Museum. Passed down through generations, our home is a century-old traditional Bhutanese building. The top floor houses our family altar, preserved with original murals and intricate wooden pillar work that reflects the craftsmanship of the past. The other floors have been adapted to welcome guests, with seven cosy rooms that offer both comfort and a sense of home. While most rooms do not have heaters, the house is naturally warmed by generous morning and evening sunlight, making it surprisingly snug.

A Homestay with Heart

At our farmhouse, we blend the comforts of modern hospitality with the genuine feeling of living in a Bhutanese family home. Nestled right beside the Paro river and framed by stunning Himalayan landscapes, the farmhouse also boasts views of the majestic Paro Dzong—making it a photographer’s delight and an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful, scenic escape.

A Taste of Bhutanese Cuisine

One of the highlights of staying with us is the food. Our small in-house kitchen restaurant invites guests to experience authentic Bhutanese flavours, lovingly prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Signature dishes include the iconic Ema Datshi—a spicy chilli and cheese stew—as well as hearty local stews, seasonal vegetables, and rice-based meals that reflect Bhutan’s agricultural roots. Meals are usually served in our family dining room, where guests sit on polished wooden floors surrounded by cherished heirlooms, enjoying the warmth of a traditional Bhutanese meal.

Activities and Local Experiences

For guests who want to dive deeper into our way of life, we’re happy to offer cooking sessions using family recipes. We also provide traditional hot stone baths—perfect after a long day—and fun outdoor activities like archery and local darts in our backyard. Whether you're here to relax, learn, or simply enjoy the views, our home is a welcoming base for your Bhutanese adventure.
