For inspiration beyond the ordinary, we invite you to explore our collection of Unique Bhutan Experiences here

Let your Bhutan adventure begin—just the way you imagine it.

Day 1

A Warm Welcome to the Kingdom of Bhutan

Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, perched at 7,333 feet above sea level, you’ll be warmly welcomed by one of our friendly Bhutanese guides just outside the arrival hall. The thin mountain air may be the first thing you notice—so we’ll take it slow as we drive toward Thimphu, allowing you time to acclimatize before checking into your hotel.

Thimphu, the charming capital of Bhutan, is the perfect place to begin your journey of discovery. As you settle in, you’ll start to absorb the unique rhythms of Bhutanese life—monks in crimson robes, men clad in traditional striped ghos, and women wrapped in bright, graceful kiras. It’s a place where tradition lives and breathes in everyday moments.

Once you’re refreshed, we’ll begin unveiling Bhutan’s rich culture with visits to Thimphu’s most iconic landmarks.

Our first stop is the National Memorial Chorten, a beautiful whitewashed stupa topped with a golden spire, built in 1974 to honor His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third king of Bhutan. Revered as the “Father of Modern Bhutan,” this sacred site remains a focal point of prayer and devotion, embodying his vision and compassion.

Next, we visit the Tashichho Dzong, a magnificent fortress-monastery nestled along the banks of the Wang Chhu River. With its striking Bhutanese architecture, the dzong is both a religious and administrative center—home to the Druk Desi (head of the civil government) and the King’s offices.

If you’re here on a weekend, we’ll stroll through the bustling Centenary Farmers’ Market, where locals sell fresh vegetables, cheese, grains, and even the occasional yak leg.

To conclude the day, we’ll take a scenic drive to Buddha Point, located in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. Here stands the majestic Buddha Dordenma, a colossal 169-foot bronze statue seated serenely above the valley. One of the largest of its kind in the world, the statue commands panoramic views of Thimphu and the surrounding mountains.

After dinner back in town, feel free to explore Thimphu at your own pace—wander into cozy cafés, browse through artisan shops, or soak in the relaxed, joyful atmosphere of Bhutan’s capital.

Day 2

Cultural Heights & Hidden Gems of Thimphu

Start your morning with an optional sunrise walk or scenic drive to Sangaygang Viewpoint (BBS Tower), a peaceful hilltop retreat just 15 minutes from the city center. From this vantage point, enjoy sweeping views of Thimphu Valley bathed in golden morning light. As you ascend or descend, we’ll make a stop at the Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal—a rare and curious creature found only in the Eastern Himalayas.

After breakfast, we’ll continue to Dechen Phodrang, the site of the original Tashi Chho Dzong. Today, it houses Bhutan’s prestigious state monastic school, where over 450 young monks pursue their spiritual and academic education. The quiet serenity of the monastery and the rhythmic procession of robed monks offer a humbling glimpse into the nation’s deeply rooted monastic traditions.

Next, step into the charm of Simply Bhutan, a beautifully curated living museum designed to preserve and showcase Bhutanese architecture, crafts, and customs. From traditional butter tea tasting to interactive cultural experiences, this is also a platform for Bhutanese youth to shine as storytellers, artisans, and guides. Don’t miss the chance to dress in Bhutanese attire for a portrait to remember.

In the afternoon, we venture just outside Thimphu to Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the country, built in 1627 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan. Perched on a ridge, this dzong is now home to the Institute for Language and Cultural Studies. As you stroll its quiet courtyards, admire the exquisite slate carvings—over 300 intricately detailed panels that grace the area behind the prayer wheels, offering a masterclass in Bhutanese sacred art.

Day 3

Across Sacred Passes to the Heart of Punakha

Today, we journey east to the lush and subtropical valley of Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan until 1955 and a region steeped in royal history and natural beauty.

En route, we ascend to the breathtaking Dochula Pass at 3,100 meters (10,200 feet). On a clear day, this serene mountain pass offers a 360-degree view of the snow-capped Himalayan range—a sight that stirs both awe and tranquility. Amidst fluttering prayer flags and mountain breezes, you'll find the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, solemnly arranged on a grassy knoll. These chortens were built in honor of the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives during the 2003 conflict with Assamese insurgents.

Nearby stands the elegant Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a temple completed in 2008 to commemorate the centenary of Bhutan’s monarchy. It also honors His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth king and commander during the 2003 operation. The temple’s murals, blending tradition with modern Bhutanese history, reflect the strength and compassion of the kingdom’s leadership.

Descending into the Punakha Valley, we arrive at what is often regarded as the crown jewel of Bhutanese architecture—the Punakha Dzong. Strategically positioned at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Male River) and Mo Chhu (Female River). With its whitewashed walls, intricately carved woodwork, and picturesque river setting, the dzong is both a spiritual sanctuary and a royal icon. It served as the seat of government for centuries and continues to host royal ceremonies, including the wedding of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

To round off your day, we’ll take a gentle walk across the Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge, the longest of its kind in Bhutan, stretching 160 meters above the river. The bridge offers panoramic views of Punakha Dzong, the valley, and prayer flags that ripple in the wind—a perfect moment to pause and reflect on Bhutan’s enduring harmony between nature, history, and spirituality. Afterwards, retreat to your luxurious hotel for a peaceful evening.

Day 4

Soulful Encounters in Punakha

This morning begins with a scenic hike through rice terraces and pine forests to one of Bhutan’s most remarkable spiritual landmarks—the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Commissioned by Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, this exquisite temple was constructed to promote universal peace and harmony.

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Punakha Valley, the temple is a masterpiece of Bhutanese art and architecture. Unlike any other in the kingdom, its interior walls are adorned with intricate murals and vivid depictions of protective deities and enlightened masters, offering deep insight into Bhutan’s Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. Each level of the temple reveals a new layer of symbolic meaning, making it a serene and intellectually enriching experience for those seeking deeper understanding.

After your descent, we’ll set up a private riverside picnic, surrounded by the gentle flow of the Mo Chhu River and the natural beauty of the valley. This elegant outdoor setting invites you to unwind and savor a gourmet spread featuring locally inspired delicacies and fresh seasonal ingredients.

As the sun dips low, we invite you into the heart of Bhutanese life with a special home visit. Share an intimate traditional dinner with a local family, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms and genuine hospitality. Seated around the hearth, you'll enjoy hearty Bhutanese cuisine and warm conversation—an opportunity to connect deeply with the culture, values, and everyday stories of the people who call this kingdom home.

Return to your hotel in the evening with a full heart, having experienced not just Bhutan’s grandeur—but its soul.

Day 5

Legends and Legacy in the Paro Valley

Today, we return to the storied landscapes of Paro Valley, a region steeped in myth, majesty, and spiritual significance. Paro is home to Bhutan’s only international airport, but more importantly, it shelters some of the kingdom’s oldest and most revered temples. Towering above the northern reaches of the valley is Mount Jomolhari (7,300m), whose glacial waters feed the Pa Chhu River, gracefully winding through the lush terrain.

Our first stop is the Kyichu Lhakhang, also known as Kyerchu or Lho Kyerchu Temple—widely considered the oldest temple in Bhutan. Built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, it is one of 108 temples constructed across the Himalayan region in a single night, according to legend, to subdue a demoness obstructing the spread of Buddhism. Stepping into this serene sanctuary is like entering a reservoir of peace. Its timeless aura invites reflection and quietude.

We then continue to Dumtse Lhakhang, an extraordinary temple built in 1433 by the legendary Tibetan iron bridge builder, Thangtong Gyalpo. Erected to subdue a demoness believed to lie beneath the land, the temple was chained to the earth to hold her in place. Dumtse Lhakhang’s architecture is deeply symbolic—its three floors represent the realms of hell, earth, and heaven. With its dark, narrow staircases and richly painted murals, a visit here feels like a journey through the spiritual cosmos. Please note: a special permit is required for entry, which we will arrange in advance for your exclusive access.

This day in Paro is not just a tour—it’s a passage through time, myth, and sacred art, offering a deeper connection to Bhutan’s timeless soul.

Day 6

The Sacred Ascent to Tiger’s Nest

Are you ready for the crown jewel of your Bhutan journey? Today, we embark on the unforgettable hike to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest—a sacred site that is as spiritually powerful as it is visually breathtaking.

Clinging dramatically to a sheer cliff over 3,000 feet above the Paro Valley floor, Taktsang has inspired awe in every traveler who sets eyes upon it. As one visitor aptly said, “A trip to Bhutan is never complete without the climb to Tiger’s Nest.”

According to legend, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava)—the revered saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan—flew here on the back of a flying tigress, believed to be his consort Yeshey Tshogyal. He meditated in a cave at this very site and emerged in eight manifestations, sanctifying the location and giving rise to the monastery’s spiritual significance.

The hike itself is a soulful journey, winding through pine forests scented with prayer incense and adorned with fluttering prayer flags. Whether you seek inner peace or adventure, each step upward offers moments of reflection, beauty, and wonder. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views, optional rest stops—including a picturesque tea house with panoramic views—and the quiet hum of prayer wheels in motion.

Upon reaching the monastery, explore its hidden caves, shrines, and meditation halls, all infused with centuries of devotion. The reward is not just the destination, but the deeply moving journey it takes to get there.

Kuzuangpola, we booked the 7 days 6 nights Essential Bhutan itinerary with Druk Asia.

We had a wonderful time in Bhutan. Driver , Hapa and Guide , Ugyen were professional and very knowledgeable. We felt safe in the car riding on rough roads. When we (myself, Kenna and a dear close friend Kamlesh) arrived in Bhutan as visitors, 10 days later, we left as people who have been deeply touched—not just by the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of this remarkable kingdom, but by the extraordinary person who guided us through it all. From the moment our guide Ms Chencho Lham met us at the airport to our final goodbye, she embodied everything that makes Bhutan special. Her warmth wasn't just professional courtesy—it was genuine compassion that made us feel like we were traveling with family rather than following a guide. What truly set her apart was her passion for her homelan
