I had a wonderful 7D6N in Bhutan all thanks to the team from Druk Asia / SoulTrips. I had planned for a solo trip to Bhutan, and after some searches, I chanced upon several reviews with Druk Asia which eventually led me to reach out to them and book a tour with them. All I can say is, it was the best decision to do so!
Everything was seamless, from the communication with the Travel Specialist (Ugyen Dema), to the planning of itinerary, and the booking of the whole package. She was very patient and helpful throughout my conversations with her via email, and she was very prompt in replying to my queries too. Most importantly, I did not feel that she was trying to “hard sell” me anything, just genuinely trying to answer my queries and provide the best options according to my budget and considerations.
Needless to say, the whole trip in Bhutan was very well-planned. For a planner like myself, I am very glad that for once I can completely let go of the planning, and just visit Bhutan worry-free. My guide (Dawa Gyelthsen) and driver (Dechen Wangdi) were very hospitable throughout the entire trip. As a female solo traveller, they made me feel safe and comfortable. They engaged me in conversations to keep me company, but I also particularly appreciated that they gave me space during the long car rides to be quiet.
Dawa is very knowledgeable about the history of Bhutan, and explained in detail the history and spiritual rituals of each temple, monastery and dzong we went to. More than that, he was very responsible and took good care of me from the first to the last day. He is also very attentive and mindful of my needs and interests. One particular example was when he noted that I was interested in cycling, and he went out of his way to arrange for that experience in the middle of Phobjikha Valley. That night itself was a very memorable night with the cold and fresh air blowing in our faces, and the stars hanging above our heads.
Dechen is a very skillful and safe driver who navigates through the windy roads of Bhutan with a touch of humour and fun. He is a DJ, comedian, and chauffeur all packed into one body. He shared stories, which made me less awkward, and also invited me for Karaoke sessions which were so much fun!
More than just the cultural and spiritual places of interests, and the serenity of the beautiful landscapes in Bhutan, the hospitality from its people was what stayed with me the most. The genuine conversations, the exceptional service provided, and the childlike smiles and laughter allowed me to experience the claim that Bhutan is the happiest place in the world.
