One of the highlights of our trip was the trek to Taktsang Monastery
Our arrival in Bhutan was on a rainy day, which did not feel very welcoming at first. However, our local guide and driver quickly made up for it. They greeted us warmly at the airport, and their friendliness and attention to detail continued to impress us throughout our entire holiday.
Mr. Yongko, our guide, was very knowledgeable and experienced. He shared with us the richness of Buddhism, the beauty of century-old temples, the fascinating history of Bhutan’s many fortresses, and stories of His Majesty and the royal family. More importantly, he listened carefully to our needs and did his best to accommodate our requests.
One of the highlights of our trip was the trek to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). We had been told that locals typically complete the hike in about three hours, and given our age and physical condition, we were worried about whether we could manage it. But Yongko was positive and encouraging, assuring us we could do it together at a slower pace. Throughout the trek, he was attentive to our well-being — teaching us breathing techniques, ensuring we had enough rest and water at each checkpoint, and even offering to carry our belongings so we could climb more comfortably. His care and dedication far exceeded our expectations of a guide. In the end, we took 8 hours to complete it, and it was 100% worth it.
Mr. Dorji, our driver, was equally exceptional. Not only was he experienced and careful, ensuring smooth and safe rides from place to place, but he also came well-prepared with everything we might need — from sufficient drinking water to umbrellas and even walking sticks for our hikes. Along the way, he thoughtfully stopped at scenic viewpoints so we could capture the most beautiful pictures of Bhutan’s landscapes and landmarks.
We sincerely thank both Yongko and Dorji for the excellent service they provided during our stay in Bhutan, and we wish them and their families well. It is people like them who made this journey so memorable, leaving us with a deep and lasting impression of the Kingdom of Bhutan. While we cannot say for sure what the future holds, if we do return to explore other parts of this beautiful country, we will certainly engage Soultrips and hope to once again travel with Yongko and Dorji.
