Bhutan Trip Itinerary

If you’re looking for a gentle Himalayan adventure that mixes history, forest trails, and sweeping valley views, the Sinchula Trek is a lovely choice. It’s one of Bhutan’s quieter routes — a peaceful walk that takes you along old trading paths once used by villagers moving between Thimphu and Punakha.

As you make your way through mossy forests, fern-lined paths, and quiet ridgelines, you’ll feel the landscape shift from cool pine woods to warmer river valleys. Along the way, you’re treated to glimpses of mountain peaks, hidden monasteries, and small settlements that still keep their timeless rhythm. It’s a trek that’s not too demanding, wonderfully serene, and perfect for anyone who wants to experience Bhutan’s natural beauty without rushing.

Distance: 35KM
Difficulty: Easy — Moderate

All our tours are fully customisable — the itineraries you see are simply a starting point. We’ll work closely with you to tailor every detail so your Bhutan journey is truly your own.

Day 1

Arrival in Paro → Thimphu

Your journey begins with one of the world’s most memorable flights. As your Drukair aircraft glides between snow-capped Himalayan giants, the scenery gives way to the emerald folds of Paro Valley. The moment you step outside, the fresh, cool Bhutanese air feels like your first welcome gift.

After clearing customs, meet your guide and head into Paro town for lunch. In the afternoon, set off on the one-hour drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s modern yet charming capital of around 100,000 people. With just a handful of streets and famously no traffic lights, the city moves at a wonderfully gentle rhythm.

Your sightseeing begins at the National Memorial Chorten before continuing up to Buddha Point, home to one of the world’s largest statues of Buddha Shakyamuni. If time allows, visit Zilukha Nunnery and the grand Tashichho Dzong — the seat of the central monastic body in summer and the office of His Majesty The King.

End the day with a leisurely stroll through Thimphu’s streets. Dinner and overnight in Thimphu.

Day 2

Thimphu → Sinchula Pass → Camp (2,800 m)

In the morning, visit the Institute of Zorig Chusum where young artists train in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.

After lunch, drive north past Kabjisa village and begin your hike through fragrant pine forests. The trail ascends gently until you reach Sinchula Pass (3,200 m), where, on a clear day, you’ll enjoy views of Phajoding and, a little farther along, sights of Talo Monastery and the road that winds toward Punakha.

From the pass, the trail descends gradually to your campsite. Today’s trek covers 16 km and takes around 4–5 hours. Settle into camp at 2,800 m and enjoy a peaceful night under the trees.

Day 3

Camp → Chorten Ningpo → Punakha

After breakfast at camp, your trail continues downhill through thick, lush forest until you reach Chorten Ningpo — a historic and serene monastery where your picnic lunch will be served.

From here, an easy one-hour walk brings you to the road where your vehicle awaits. Drive to Punakha Dzong, the former capital of Bhutan and winter residence of the Je Khenpo. Gracefully set between the male (Pho) and female (Mo) rivers, it remains one of Bhutan’s most breathtaking architectural masterpieces. Dinner and overnight in Punakha.

Day 4

Punakha → Dochula → Paro

Begin the day with a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, the famed fertility temple dedicated to the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kunley. The gentle walk through the village and fields adds to the charm of this visit.

Continue your drive over the scenic Dochula Pass, where, on clear days, the eastern Himalayan range rises dramatically behind the 108 chortens. Stop for lunch in Thimphu before driving back to Paro.

In Paro, visit Ta Dzong — once a watchtower and now the National Museum — followed by Rinpung Dzong below it, home to the monastic body and the administrative centre of Paro. Spend the evening browsing the main street shops at your own pace. Dinner and overnight in Paro.

Day 5

Departure from Paro

After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. As you take off, we hope the quiet forests, mountain passes, and warm Bhutanese hospitality linger with you long after the journey ends. We look forward to welcoming you back again with Druk Asia’s Bhutan Trekking Tours. Tashi Delek!

We had book a 7D6N private tour to explore Bhutan. We had a warm welcome by our Guide (Jigme Zangpo) and Driver (Thinley Dorji). Thru’ out our stay, we were well taken care by both of them and they had went beyond their roles to help us with whatever request that could be fulfilled within their means. Jigme is very knowledgeable on the history and we had learned a lot from him about Bhutan. The Driver Dorji had make us feel so comfortable thru’ out the journey and we were impressed by humour and seating in his car always feel so secure. Thanks again on bringing us to explore Bhutan.

We had a wonderful tour of Bhutan thanks to our guide Yongko Dorji and our driver Ugyen. They were very polite and professional and took a personal interest in making sure our trip was outstanding. Yongko is very knowledgeable and patiently answered all our questions. We learned so much about the culture of Bhutan and about Buddhism. Ugyen is an excellent driver and also a guide. We also want to thank Sangay for working with us on our itinerary and last minute changes. SoulTrips truly made this a memorable trip.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience during the four days we spent visiting Bhutan. Our guide, Chencho Lham, and our driver, Namgay Thaye, did everything possible to make sure we enjoyed every moment of the trip. We visited incredible places, had time to explore the cities on our own, and even shared a fun moment together playing darts. The highlight of the trip was definitely the hike to Tiger’s Nest — a perfect combination of physical challenge, moments for reflection, and breathtaking landscapes. Bhutan is an incredible country, with a unique culture and extremely kind people. We learned a lot during the journey and would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to explore a less-visited destination that still has so much to teach.
