Meet Your Host: Dechen Om
My name is Dechen Om, and I live here with my husband in our peaceful village home in Damchi. We started this homestay through a community-based tourism project, with the goal of sharing our way of life while protecting the natural environment around us. Welcoming guests into our home has become a meaningful part of our lives, and we love offering a quiet, comfortable space where travellers can relax and enjoy the best of what Punakha has to offer.
A Riverside Haven for Nature Lovers
Our homestay is perched just above the Punakha River, surrounded by lush greenery and birdsong. One of the most special things about this location is its proximity to the nesting grounds of the elusive White-bellied Heron—one of the world’s rarest birds. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts often find great joy in spotting this critically endangered species, making our homestay a hidden gem for wildlife lovers.
Traditional Flavours from Ancient Ovens
A stay at Aum Dechen Om Homestay is also a culinary journey. One of the highlights is tasting authentic Bhutanese dishes prepared over ancient earthen ovens. These traditional cooking methods bring out deep, nostalgic flavours—offering guests a glimpse into the way Bhutanese families have cooked for generations. Meals are crafted with care and served with warmth, making each dining experience both delicious and memorable.
Experience Bhutanese Hospitality in Harmony with Nature
Our homestay offers more than just a place to rest—it’s an invitation to slow down and immerse yourself in the rhythms of village life. Whether you’re here to birdwatch, enjoy traditional food, or simply relax by the riverside, we hope your time with us brings peace, insight, and cherished memories.
