What makes this hike particularly special is the blend of history, rural scenery, and spiritual heritage. The walk leads through peaceful farmland and village landscapes before reaching Nobgang Village, where visitors can explore the historic Nobgang Lhakhang — the ancestral temple connected to Bhutan's first king.

About the Nobgang Trail

The trail begins in Nobgang Village, a hilltop settlement known as the ancestral village of Bhutan's four Queen Mothers, the sisters of the Dorji family. As hikers walk through the village, they pass several important landmarks, including the Nobgang Palace associated with the Fourth King, as well as two lhakhangs and two chortens linked to the legacy of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

One of the temples houses historical artefacts and traditional weapons, offering a glimpse into Bhutan's past. From the village, the trail gently descends along the hillside, providing beautiful panoramic views across the Punakha Valley throughout the walk.
