Our international group of 21 yogis had a very magical and meaningful experience in majestic Bhutan. Mr Sangay Dorji, of Druk Asia, took care of everything we needed and answered all our questions with warmth and competence. The whole process was hassle-free and we were able to build a sense of ease and trust between us right from the beginning.
Once the itinerary was refined and sorted out, the group received a detailed and final copy of the itinerary, as well as the Drukair E-Tickets for the flights to Bhutan. 2 weeks prior to the trip, we received information of our guides and all the E-visas for entry into Bhutan for the group.
From the get-go, we also received comprehensive information regarding all matters pertaining to Bhutan, right down to how we could select seats with the best views flying into and out of Bhutan during the online check-in . The Bhutanese experience definitely begins right on board Drukair. The Pilots are both very skilled in their navigation and welcoming at the same time, as they also took the time to interact with the passengers with a commentary of the superb sights that were visible from the window seats.
For the entire trip, we received a dream team of Guides (Tshering & Tshewang) and Drivers (Ashish & Norzang). The guides were extremely learned and they shared with the group with enthusiasm and great passion. We gained a lot of knowledge from both the Guide and the Drivers, in particular, Tshering and Ashish. Together they complimented each other, working very well and in unison with the group. Sensing the group enjoyed nature, birding and photography, they were able to share their own interests by spotting wildlife and birds and pointing them out to the group. Ashish drove with great skill, and at the same time, with his laser -sharp instincts, he was also able to spot an iridescent male Himalayan Manol perched high up on the hill at Chele La Pass and point out some Yaks along the way.
There were uncountable memorable highlights on this trip, such as, getting to know and experience the warm-heartedness and openness of the Bhutanese people; the scenic Sangaygang to Wangditse Hike; partaking in Paro Tshechu; witnessing the Unfurling of the Thongdrel during the last day of the Paro Tshechu; visiting the many sacred sites/monasteries and experiencing the depth and weightiness of the space; and making the beautiful hike to Paro Taktsang and witnessing one of the sites where Guru Rinpoche once meditated.
The Guides and Drivers took care of us each step of the way, they made sure that we participated fully and with great joy, and they did so with great willingness, adaptability and professionalism.
The meals served are very healthy and extremely delicious, especially if you are willing to be adventurous and go with Bhutanese food.
The group enjoyed in particular the accommodation at Thimphu Central Hotel and Rema Resort. The Mountain View rooms were very spacious, and ideal for recharging and restoration. Rooms were either located right in the heart of town, or very easily accessible to town with a short and very affordable taxi ride (BTN 150). There are opportunities to wander around town on your own, to enjoy shopping, or have fun with Archery after enjoying a healing Bhutanese hot stone bath after the hike to Paro Taktsang.
We definitely intend to return to Bhutan in the near future. I highly recommend Mr Sangay Dorji at Druk Asia as your contact to planning your Bhutanese adventure for both a peace of mind and an out of this world experience! Kadinche la!
