Some journeys are measured in miles
Some journeys are measured in miles. Others are measured in moments. Bhutan, for us, was the latter. What began as a holiday slowly became something far richer — a collection of conversations, mountain roads, monastery bells, shared laughter, quiet wisdom, and countless reminders to slow down and pay attention. We were fortunate to visit in late spring, when Bhutan seemed to be celebrating itself. Wildflowers and rhododendrons bloomed across valleys and hillsides, splashing the landscape with colour and making every drive feel like a journey through a living painting.
A heartfelt thank you to Druk Asia and SoulTrips for helping shape such a memorable experience. From the earliest planning stages to the final farewell, everything felt thoughtful, personal, and wonderfully unhurried. Special thanks to Sonam, who patiently helped craft an itinerary that suited our pace and interests. To Dorji, who welcomed us to Bhutan and guided us through its culture, history, traditions, and stories with warmth and grace. And to Tshering, who did far more than drive us from one valley to another — he looked after us like family, always with a smile, a helping hand, and genuine kindness. The monasteries were beautiful, the mountains humbling, the hospitality unforgettable.
We learned about Bhutan’s history and traditions, but also about contentment, community, and living with intention. And then there was Tiger’s Nest. Not conquered, but approached slowly and mindfully, one step at a time. Much like Bhutan itself — a place best experienced without hurry. I arrived as a visitor and left feeling I had made friends. Amazing people. Amazing country. Amazing hospitality. I promised I would return. And I shall.
