Where History Meets Serenity

Located a short drive north of the 17th-century Punakha Dzong and Puntsho Pelri Palace, the lodge is reached by crossing the Mo Chhu (Mother River). Guests are welcomed into a sprawling compound designed around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse originally built by a former Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). From this vantage point, the Abbot once oversaw the surrounding rice paddies and fruit orchards—views that guests continue to enjoy today.

The Heart of the Lodge

The three-storey farmhouse, adorned with preserved vegetable-dye wall paintings, serves as the lodge’s central gathering space. The ground floor houses the Dining Room, while the upper levels feature serene lounges and a traditional altar room for prayer and meditation. The central courtyard offers a perfect setting for outdoor dining and evening relaxation during Punakha’s mild months. Adjacent to it, a Tea Pavilion—once the old palace kitchen—now serves as a cosy nook for afternoon tea or quiet reflection.

Wellness in Nature

Set beyond the courtyard, the two-storey Spa Pavilion is designed to immerse guests in nature’s calm. The upper level hosts a yoga and meditation room with sweeping views of the rice terraces, while the lower floor features two private treatment rooms, a steam room, and changing facilities—ideal for unwinding after a day of exploration.

Suites with Soul

Eight suites, inspired by Amankora’s signature Bhutanese design, are housed in three rammed-earth structures nestled in an orange orchard. Each suite features a king-size bed, daybed, terrazzo-clad bath, and a traditional bukhari stove for warmth during cool winters. With panoramic views across the paddy fields and up Punakha Valley, the suites seamlessly blend rural charm with understated luxury. Suites are individually heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer for year-round comfort.

Immersive Experiences in the Valley

Amankora Punakha curates memorable experiences that bring guests closer to the spirit of Bhutan. A visit to Punakha Dzong, the country’s most majestic monastery-fortress, reveals centuries of spiritual and architectural splendour. Beyond this, guests can explore verdant valleys, local villages, and riverside trails that showcase Punakha’s serene beauty and cultural depth.

Where Tranquillity and Tradition Embrace

Combining heritage, nature, and refined comfort, Amankora Punakha offers a deeply peaceful escape. Whether meditating by the river, dining under the stars, or simply listening to the rustle of rice fields in the breeze, every moment here is imbued with Bhutan’s quiet grace.
