Bhutan Trip Itinerary

4 Nights | Thimphu – Paro

This five-day journey offers a beautifully paced introduction to Bhutan through its two most culturally rich valleys, Thimphu and Paro. Designed for travellers seeking depth without haste, the itinerary blends Bhutan’s living traditions with its most iconic landmarks — from the administrative and spiritual heart of the capital to the sacred monasteries and fertile landscapes of Paro Valley.

Along the way, you explore historic dzongs, traditional crafts, forested trails and ancient temples, culminating in the unforgettable pilgrimage to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Throughout your stay, you are based at Amankora Thimphu and Amankora Paro, where refined design, serene settings and deeply personalised service provide a peaceful retreat at the end of each day, allowing you to experience Bhutan with both comfort and quiet immersion.

All our tours are fully customisable — the itineraries you see are simply a starting point. We’ll work closely with you to tailor every detail so your Bhutan journey is truly your own.

Day 1

Arrival in Paro – Journey to Thimphu

As your Drukair flight weaves through the Himalayan valleys, your arrival into Bhutan is unlike anywhere else in the world. Upon landing at Paro International Airport, travellers often pause on the tarmac in quiet amazement — a moment worth savouring with your camera close at hand. After clearing immigration and receiving your official entry stamp, meet your friendly private guide before beginning the scenic drive to Thimphu, approximately one and a half hours away.

After settling into your lodge, enjoy a gentle introduction to Bhutan’s capital. Visit sites such as the National Memorial Chorten, Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, and if time permits, stroll along Thimphu’s main street to browse Himalayan artefacts and traditional textiles.

Overnight: Amankora Thimphu

Day 2

Thimphu Valley & Living Traditions

This morning, explore the northern reaches of the Thimphu Valley with a visit to Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and royal offices. Continue to Pangri Zampa, a pair of 16th-century buildings that now house Bhutan’s traditional monastic school for astrologers, offering insight into the spiritual sciences still practised today.

At the head of the valley, those wishing to stretch their legs can enjoy a short hike to Cheri Goemba, the monastery where Bhutan’s first monastic body was established. Back in town, visit local cottage industries specialising in traditional paper-making and weaving, preserving crafts passed down through generations.

Overnight: Amankora Thimphu

Day 3

Paro Valley – Heritage & Temples

Begin with a visit to the National Museum housed in the Ta Dzong watchtower, offering a rich introduction to Bhutan’s culture and heritage. Walk downhill to Paro Dzong, one of Bhutan’s finest architectural masterpieces, before crossing the traditional cantilever bridge Nyamai Zampa.

Continue to the town temple built in 1525 to admire its ancient wall paintings. Lunch options include a scenic picnic or a visit to a traditional farmhouse. In the afternoon, visit Dumtse Lhakhang to view its beautifully preserved murals, followed by Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, believed to pin down a demoness that once plagued the Himalayas.

Overnight: Amankora Paro

Day 4

Tiger’s Nest Pilgrimage & Spa

Today marks a spiritual highlight with a pilgrimage to Taktsang Goemba, famously known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The four to five-hour trek offers breathtaking views of this sacred site perched 900 metres above the valley floor. Mules and donkeys are available to assist those who wish to reduce the physical exertion, and a picnic lunch is served along the way.

The afternoon is at leisure, perfect for enjoying the Amankora spa and easing the gentle aches from the morning’s pilgrimage.

Overnight: Amankora Paro

Day 5

Departure from Bhutan

An early morning transfer takes you from Amankora Paro to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. As you depart Bhutan, you leave with more than photographs — carrying memories of a kingdom that reveals itself quietly, deeply and beautifully.

We look forward to welcoming you again on another Bhutan luxury journey. Tashi Delek.

We had book a 7D6N private tour to explore Bhutan. We had a warm welcome by our Guide (Jigme Zangpo) and Driver (Thinley Dorji). Thru’ out our stay, we were well taken care by both of them and they had went beyond their roles to help us with whatever request that could be fulfilled within their means. Jigme is very knowledgeable on the history and we had learned a lot from him about Bhutan. The Driver Dorji had make us feel so comfortable thru’ out the journey and we were impressed by humour and seating in his car always feel so secure. Thanks again on bringing us to explore Bhutan.

We had a wonderful tour of Bhutan thanks to our guide Yongko Dorji and our driver Ugyen. They were very polite and professional and took a personal interest in making sure our trip was outstanding. Yongko is very knowledgeable and patiently answered all our questions. We learned so much about the culture of Bhutan and about Buddhism. Ugyen is an excellent driver and also a guide. We also want to thank Sangay for working with us on our itinerary and last minute changes. SoulTrips truly made this a memorable trip.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience during the four days we spent visiting Bhutan. Our guide, Chencho Lham, and our driver, Namgay Thaye, did everything possible to make sure we enjoyed every moment of the trip. We visited incredible places, had time to explore the cities on our own, and even shared a fun moment together playing darts. The highlight of the trip was definitely the hike to Tiger’s Nest — a perfect combination of physical challenge, moments for reflection, and breathtaking landscapes. Bhutan is an incredible country, with a unique culture and extremely kind people. We learned a lot during the journey and would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to explore a less-visited destination that still has so much to teach.
