In Bhutan, travel has always been more than sightseeing, it is about connection, responsibility, and legacy. At Druk Asia, we are committed to ensuring your journey leaves a positive impact on the Kingdom’s pristine environment. Through our partnership with the Bhutan Youth Development Fund (BYDF), every trip you take with us contributes directly to meaningful reforestation efforts across Bhutan.
Our Commitment: Offsetting Your Carbon Footprint
Travel inevitably creates a carbon footprint — but your journey to Bhutan can also help restore nature.
Druk Asia pledges to plant 888 saplings annually for three consecutive years, focusing on the plantation of flowering tree species across Bhutan. This tree adoption initiative is designed to:
Offset your travel carbon footprint
Enhance biodiversity
Support Bhutan’s conservation goals
Create beautiful, blooming landscapes for future generations
Connect travellers more deeply to Bhutan’s living environment
It is a long-term ecological commitment rooted in Bhutan’s philosophy of harmony between people and nature.
Why Flowering Trees?
Most reforestation projects focus purely on volume. Our approach is more thoughtful.
By prioritising flowering tree species, the initiative aims to create what we call “flowering forests” — landscapes that are not only ecologically beneficial but also visually and culturally meaningful.
The impact:
Supports pollinators such as bees and butterflies
Enhances seasonal beauty across Bhutan’s valleys
Strengthens ecosystem resilience
Creates living symbols of renewal and growth
It is conservation with both purpose and poetry.
Empowering Bhutan’s Next Generation
Under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Mother Tshering Pem Wangchuck, President of BYDF, youth remain at the heart of Bhutan’s sustainable future. Through this collaboration:
Active Stewardship
BYDF’s Young Volunteers In Action (Y-VIA) network will be mobilised for annual plantation drives across multiple districts.
Up-skilling
Youth participants will gain hands-on experience in:
Tree lifecycle management
Environmental monitoring
Community outreach
Sustainability planning
What Does Your Tree Adoption Entail?
Our tree planting experience is thoughtfully designed to be more than just placing a sapling in the ground. It is an immersive, meaningful encounter that connects you with Bhutan’s land, people, and future. Guided by passionate young Bhutanese volunteers, the activity blends learning, hands-on action, and genuine cultural exchange.
Introduction to Tree Planting by Bhutanese Youth
Your experience begins with a warm welcome from members of BYDF’s Young Volunteers In Action (Y-VIA) network. These dedicated youth stewards will introduce you to Bhutan’s conservation philosophy, the purpose behind the “Nurture A Tree” programme, and the importance of flowering forests in strengthening biodiversity. Through their stories and insights, you gain a deeper appreciation of how environmental stewardship is woven into Bhutan’s national values.
Learn More About Bhutan’s Living Ecosystems
Before planting begins, you will be guided through a short, engaging learning session covering:
The role of forests in Bhutan’s carbon-negative status
Why flowering tree species are selected
How saplings are nurtured and monitored over time
The impact of community-led conservation
This educational component ensures your participation is informed, intentional, and meaningful.
Hands-On Tree Planting Experience
The highlight of the activity is, of course, getting your hands into Bhutanese soil. Together with local youth volunteers, you will:
Plant your own flowering tree sapling
Learn proper planting techniques
Understand basic tree care and lifecycle management
Take part in a symbolic act of giving back to the land
It is a simple yet powerful moment — one that allows you to leave a living legacy in Bhutan.
